The fauna of Portugal is a mixture of European and North African types. While Portugal does not have a national animal, many residents think of the rooster as the national symbol. One of the most beautiful creatures in the world, the lynx might be a rare spot, located up in the Malcata mountains. Another which is slowly dying out, with under 300 believed to be left, the Iberian Wolf are certainly a rare sight.
